Boipeba island was definitely the highlight of our trip and I could have easily stayed here a week or more. In the end we did stay longer than planned and cut Morro de São Paulo out of our itinerary which I think was one of the best last-minute decisions we made. This island is incredible, it feels as though you´ve stepped back in time… there are no cars, only horses and donkey carts. The town is small and everything is within walking distance. Kids and dogs roam free in the streets, safe from speeding traffic (because there isn´t any). The beaches are straight out of a postcard… palm tree lined stretches of white sand and blue sea, completely wild and empty. Paradise.
How to get there:
Leave your car in the town of Cairu or Valença, they have 24 hour guarded car parks (you need to pay, obviously, but it´s not too expensive and you can negotiate the price with the car guard) and catch a boat to the island. The smaller speed boats are pricier but much faster than the larger ferry boats, so it all depends on how much time and money you want to spend. The trip from Cairu is shorter than from Valença as it´s further south and closer to Boipeba. More information HERE

It really is incredible! It takes a bit of dedication to actually get there, since it´s not exactly easy but the effort is totally worth it.Try and stay a few days, 3 or 4 at the least as a short visit doesn´t justify the travel time to get there and back.
