Reykjavik | Iceland

In August of 2015 we travelled to Iceland for a week… I´m sitting here trying to think of a word that can sum up how I feel about it all but the truth is that I can´t. Iceland is what I expected it to be (cold, expensive, lots of horses) but it´s also not at all what I expected. It´s much bigger than I thought it was, bigger than Portugal!  We didn´t find this out until about halfway though the trip, when it seemed like we were driving for way longer than we thought we would be… and so I Googled it, and yes. Iceland isn´t exactly tiny.  Iceland is also more touristy than we had expected… it seems that it went from being hipster to being mainstream very quickly and now there are lines of people at all the main attractions. Moral of the story? If you´re visiting in summer, avoid the main attractions.

Reykjavik is a cute little city with colourful houses and lots of quaint shops and restaurants. We ate amazing grilled fish and lobster soup at Seabaron at the entrance old harbour but the famous hotdogs at Baejarins Beztu Pylsur were expensive and uninspiring, if you´ve ever eaten a hot dog anywhere in the world, at any time in your life, then you don´t need to try these ones. Our favourite food experience of the whole trip was surprising and completely non Icelandic… ramen noodles from a tiny Japanese restaurant… delicious, spicy and perfect to warm you up on a cold, windy day.
