Hey guys… as you may have noticed (ahem) I haven´t posted anything new in over a month but this is because were currently on the road in South Africa and I haven´t had the time to get online very much. But I just wanted to drop by and say thank you all for a wonderful year, 2014 was amazing, I hope it was great for you guys too and if not… here´s to an even better 2015! I still have lots to share with you from the past year´s adventures but it will have to wait until I´m back in…

Mercado do Bolhão, Porto | Bolhão Market, Porto
The Mercado do Bolhão in Porto is one of the most iconic markets in the city and dates back to the early 1800´s. I´m sure that in it´s hey-day it must have been one of the biggest and busiest markets in Porto but unfortunately it has fallen into disrepair and is desperately in need of renovations and some serious structural improvements. There are sections of the market that are, literally, being held up by scaffolding and there are a lot of empty stalls and shops. Nevertheless, this market is still worth the visit and hopefully something will be done to…
Beach camping at Praia da Galé | Portugal
We spent a few days this summer at Praia da Galé, on the Alentejo coast just south of Comporta… it´s one of our favourite spots to camp in Portugal and I always feel like we never have enough time while we´re there. This environment, these photos, brings out the dreamer in me… makes me want to drop everything and hit the road indefinitely.
Amsterdam | Holland
The first thing my friend Sarah said to me when she met me at the train station was “I have absolutely no food in the house”… so our first meal together in Amsterdam was a selection of delicious Dutch cheeses (an impromptu purchase from the duty-free section), together with the bottle of Portuguese wine I had in my hand luggage. And there is no better way to start a trip in Holland than with cheese. And wine. But mainly, cheese. The second thing Sarah said was “I´m not going to show you all the touristy things in Amsterdam, because that´s lame… I´m…
Cacilhas, Almada
Everyone who visits Lisbon knows that the city is right on the Tejo river, the lifeblood of the city and quite possibly the reason it was built in the first place. But most visitors never head across the river to look back at the city from the other side. And it really is an amazing view. Historically the “industrial” side of the river, Cacilhas and the old warehouses at the river´s edge have unfortunately fallen into disrepair, almost all of them abandoned, and you only really see local fishermen, or visitors who are searching for something different, walking the water´s…
Wine in Lisbon – for Accent Magazine
As promised last week, here a few out-takes and some of my favourite images from a recent assignment for Accent magazine, Aeromexico´s inflight magazine. You can see the tear sheets from the magazine HERE.
Accent Magazine for AeroMexico – September 2014
Some tear sheets from an assignment I shot for the September issue of Accent, Aeromexico´s first and business class in-flight magazine. Next week I will blog some of my favourite shots and out-takes from this assignment.
Avis | Alentejo
And last but not least, in this series of Alentejo towns, is Avis… a quiet little place in the northern Alentejo that (I have been told) has the rather dubious claim to fame of having been, once upon a time, the capital of Portugal. This was because the king at that time was from here and he didn´t want to be bothered by moving home and family all the way to Lisbon, so he just simply declared Avis to be the capital and that was that. The joys of a monarchy 😉 However, while trying to find out if this…
Mértola | Alentejo
Mértola was one of the first places I visited in Portugal, back in 2007 while here on holiday for the first time. I remember being fascinated by the tiny white houses and mismatched roof tiles, so very different to what I was used to back home… but the thing that made the biggest impression, that took my breath away quite literally, was the heat. So much heat. No wind, no shade, just hot white light reflecting everywhere and a cloudless blue sky burning down from above. So keeping that in mind, try not to visit in the peak of summer… not…
Évora | Alentejo
Continuing with the Alentejo theme, this is Évora, the biggest city in the northern part of the region and a place that I have blogged about before, you can see more HERE. Things have been pretty crazy over at Piteira Photography the last few months and if you´ve been following me on Instagram you may have noticed that we´re on the road almost constantly, which is fun and exhilarating, but doen´t leave much time for beautifully descriptive blog posts… or for vacuuming the house, but that´s another story. So apologies for these short posts, I know it´s pretty much been “Here´s…
