Travelling in Porto

We have visited Porto 3 or 4 times over the last few months, for work and just because… so these are a collection of images from several different trips. This city fascinated me, it´s very different to Lisbon, but also similar, in some ways… as it’s also on a river, with loads of steeps hills and narrow winding roads. The biggest difference for me is the light I think… it´s much darker than Lisbon, perhaps because of the weather, but also the buildings and streets themselves. In the south the buildings are either whitewashed or tiled and Lisbon is famous for her “Calçada Portuguesa”, the white cobblestoned streets, which reflect a lot of light back into the city. The construction and architecture in the north is traditionally more stone and granite based which combined with a higher percentage of rainy days, gives the city a bit more of a gritty vibe… it´s maybe not as light and airy as Lisbon but Porto, like her people, is full of character and quirk and I love this city.

  3. Wow! Truly amazing photos, I love them all, and you don’t make it seem like Porto is “dark” at all, but I get what you’re saying.

    1. Thank you! I think if you see Lisbon and Porto and then compare the two, maybe it will make more sense.. but dark isn’t bad, I like it. 🙂
