The first thing my friend Sarah said to me when she met me at the train station was “I have absolutely no food in the house”… so our first meal together in Amsterdam was a selection of delicious Dutch cheeses (an impromptu purchase from the duty-free section), together with the bottle of Portuguese wine I had in my hand luggage. And there is no better way to start a trip in Holland than with cheese. And wine. But mainly, cheese.
The second thing Sarah said was “I´m not going to show you all the touristy things in Amsterdam, because that´s lame… I´m going to take you to my favourite places and it´s going to be great”. Maybe those weren´t her exact words, but it was something like that… and she was totally right, it was great.
Amsterdam is amazing in so many ways I don´t even know that I would be able to describe it all in one go. The thing I loved most? Anything goes here. Absolutely anything. You can be gay, you can be straight, you can have pink hair, you can have no hair, you can be completely crazy or completely normal, you can be whatever you want to be and it´s all good. People are open to new ideas, nothing is “impossible” here, no idea is too crazy or too unconventional that you can´t at least try and see if it works. I saw a hotel built in an old construction crane. You know those cranes that construction companies use to build skyscrapers? It was converted into a hotel. Only 3 rooms, but still… a hotel! In a crane! I would NEVER have though to do that, but someone not only thought it up, but they DID it! That, to me, is what Amsterdam is about, and I love it.
Oh! Adoro estas fotos… e esta cidade 😉
Amsterdam.. Oh how I loved Amsterdam. It’s been a month since I was there but I want to go back as soon as possible. If there’s a place that makes me feel like Amsterdam is NYC and I’m glad that now NYC has some competition in my heart and mind… It’s easier to come back to Amsterdam. But it’s everything you said: nothing is “impossible” here (just like NYC!).
I´m also dying to go back, and it definitely is easier to get to than New York. But I´d like to go to New York again too… too many places and not enough time! xo
I love this city!!!!!
Fan.fucking.tastic. Now I have to go to Amsterdam! 😀
