Just a few shots of an umbrella installation over a little square in Évora, I didn’t have time to explore it more as we were shooting an engagement session when we stumbled upon it. One day when I have a house with a courtyard I’m going to do this too…

Costa Nova, Aveiro
We recently spent a few days in the middle-of-nowhere, Alentejo, which was fabulous, especially the part where we had no internet connection and barely any cell-phone signal either… the photos from this mini-holiday are coming soon, but before that, I have a bit of a back-log of images taken throughout the past few months that I hadn’t had time to edit until recently (the lack of internet distractions while in the middle-of-nowhere makes one surprisingly productive, even while on holiday!) So first up, some images from a visit to Aveiro…
Alentejo Autumn
A small town sunset the evening before a wedding in the Alentejo… Cabeção – 2011
Almada
Last week we had a rare wedding-free Saturday night and so we took a trip “across the river” to visit one of our favourite restaurant/bars with good friends and listen to some live music. Atira-te ao Rio is literally right on the banks of the Tejo river and in spite of it being in existence (rumour has it) for over 10 years and having been featured in the likes of Conde Naste Traveller, it is super low-key and laid back (and the fact that its pretty much impossible to find the first time round probably helps keep the mystery going…
Festas de Lisboa – Lisbon Festival
Summer time is party time in Portugal, and a party just isn’t a party without sardines and chorizo cooked over the coals and served with heaps of Portuguese bread (which is officially the most delicious in the world. Officially) and ridiculous amounts of beer. Welcome to the Lisbon sardine festival…
A bit more Óbidos (from the archives)
So shortly after publishing my last post I went off in search of some of my other photos of Óbidos that I was quite sure had been published, if not here on the blog then possibly on the facebook page… but no, apparently not. So here they are, this is one of my favourite towns to spend the day and is a highlight of the various spots I take visiting friends to see, not in the least because there is a little bar at the top end of the town with an enormous tree-shaded terrace, a fantastic view and quite…
Óbidos and no chocolate for dogs
The town of Óbidos is about an hour or so drive north of Lisbon and is a gorgeous and well preserved slice of mediaeval Portugal, complete with stone castles and thick walls all the way around. They also have a chocolate festival once a year. We went for the chocolate, but unfortunately, dogs aren’t allowed at the festival, so no chocolate for us. Instead, we wandered the tiny cobblestone roads and imagined living in the walled city hundreds of years ago, in constant fear of an attack by the Spanish, or the Moors, or both… makes todays financial “crisis” pale…
Guincho Sunset
Guincho
Guincho is a beach on the Cascais coastline, just a little bit south of the Cabo de Roca. Generally known as the windy beach this is the kite-boarders spot and on any given day the sky is usually packed with brightly coloured kites… like Cape Town’s Blouberg when the South Easter is kicking. Luckily for me and my camera there was virtually no wind this past weekend… I have some more night shots too, but they have a totally different look so will be posted a bit later in the week.
