I have been playing around with blur and movement in images for a while but never really got around to experimenting with it properly until a few months ago, when a friend came to visit and I dragged her to the beach in the bottom half of her wedding dress…

Costa Vicentina – Portugal´s south west coast.
So it seems everyone in the Northern Hemisphere is getting ready for autumn, my Instagram and Pinterest feeds are suddenly full of various pumpkin related recipes and warm woolly jerseys… but summer hasn´t yet left our part of the world and I, for one, am not in a rush for boots and jackets. So what if the days are getting shorter? It´s still warm enough to swim in the ocean and I´m quite happy being in denial, thank you very much. Here´s to summer, may you last at least another month… or two…
Beach love – São Julião
São Julião is our favourite beach in Ericeira, especially when you time it right and the tide is all the way out… it goes for miles and is almost always empty. Pure bliss. If you follow me on Instagram you would have seen these already… they´re iPhone photos and edited with vsco cam.
Porto do Barril
Just a few photos from a sunset walk we did many months ago, back in the summer… they’ve been waiting patiently for me to have some time to edit and blog them. The coastline between Ericeira and Santa Cruz is full of wheat fields, tall cliffs and secret coves… And in other news, I received a notification yesterday that this little blog of mine has reached 1000 followers… which simultaneously surprises and delights me! I have no idea why you have all stuck around since I blog so infrequently but I am so grateful that you have… and even if…
Portugal roadtrip Day 3 – Praia do Malhão to Sagres
If you haven’t already, then you may want to read Day 1 and Day 2 first… Day 3 took us from Praia do Malhão down to Sagres, the south-western corner of Portugal and the end of our trip. We meandered along, stopping for a while in Vila Nova de Milfontes, Zambujeira do Mar and Carrapateira and while on the last stretch of road before reaching our campsite we saw a cute sign for a little village called Aldeia da Pedralva… so we decided to take a detour. A detour that turned into a caipirinha and then another… and then dinner……
Portugal roadtrip Day 2 – Costa Vicentina: Praia da Galé to Praia do Malhão.
Day 2 of our all-girls Portugal road trip… you can find Day 1 here. We spent the night at the campsite at Praia da Galé… which is probably one of my favourites in Portugal. It’s close to the beach, it’s dog friendly, it has loads of trees for shade and it doesn’t suffer quite so much from that horrible delineated-campsite-syndrome that most 1st world country campsites are afflicted by. They actually have an area where you can just pretty much put your tent wherever you want, which is exactly what we did. The following day consisted of an early morning…
Kerry and Tara’s Portugal roadtrip – Day 1 – Ericeira to Praia da Galé.
It seems like another lifetime ago, but really it was only a few months back, in August, that one of my closest friends came over from the UK for a week. Tara and I haven’t been friends since we were little kids, we were both almost finished with university when we first met, and since then we have spent more time on opposite sides of the world than actually being in Cape Town at the same time… me on ships for 5 years and then in Portugal, Tara moving between Germany, Cape Town and now Brighton… and yet in spite…
Picnic
Because sometimes you just need to eat grilled sausage and stare at the sea…
The “Strandloper”
A few more photos from South Africa… These were taken at an open-air restaurant near Langebaan (on the West Coast) on our trip back home from camping (I blogged the camping photos here). “Die Standloper” is a pretty unique spot, I’m sure that there aren’t many places like it in the world. It is quite literally right on the beach and everything is outdoors, the cooking, the buffets, the tables… Fishing nets provide shade above your head and beach sand is beneath your feet… all the food is cooked over an open flame and served in enamel utensils, knifes and…
Blurry Things
I have pretty bad eyesight, in that I am extremely shortsighted… have been since I was 7 years old, I was that kid at school with the ugly thick glasses, you know, the one who should have been really shy and quiet, so as to avoid being picked on, except I was loud and pretty obnoxious, which didn’t work too well for me in the picked on department. I guess I should have thought that strategy through a bit more… Either way, I wear contact lenses now, and I’m still pretty obnoxious, but getting better with age… and this is what…
