In love with Kalk Bay

You may remember my photos of this gorgeous little town from when we visited last year, but suffice to say that it is definitely one of our favourite places on the Peninsula and we are harbouring secret desires of being able to afford a house here… maybe one day? I’m just putting that out there, so the universe knows what I’m after… This time we visited, we also spent the afternoon with 2 wonderful people, also photographers: Wesley Vorster and Catherine Mac, who we feel like we’ve known since forever and had the best time with, just being silly and…

Cape Town calling…

We’re off south again, to spend some time with friends and family, catch up on the tan and shoot a wedding in Ceres, our first South African wedding, and what better spot than in that mystical valley from the back of a juice box! For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, it’s ok, you’re not alone… Cape Town, here I come!!

Blurry Things

I have pretty bad eyesight, in that I am extremely¬†shortsighted… have been since I was 7 years old, I was that kid at school with the ugly thick glasses, you know, the one who should have been really shy and quiet, so as to avoid being picked on, except I was loud and pretty obnoxious, which didn’t work too well for me in the picked on department. I guess I should have thought that strategy through a bit more… Either way, I wear contact lenses now, and I’m still pretty obnoxious, but getting better with age… and this is what…

Back to the blog

Wedding season is drawing to a close, and even though I still have work to finalize and editing to do, I have been dying to get back to my little old blog… where I can do as I please and take photos for no reason at all other than to fill the gaps in my heart. And those gaps have slowly been growing, and with them, the realisation that doing a little bit of my own thing (in between the things that pay the bills) is important, essential even, for my creativity and mental health. I love my job, without…

Looking Back: adventures, road trips and my last roll of film…

I love these photos for too many reasons to fully explain. The memories they carry make me nostalgic for the “old days” but also make me laugh at how silly and inexperienced we were, and how much dumb stuff we got up to… In 2006, home from my second contract as a cruise ship photographer, my good friend Tara and I decided to go on a “Thelma and Louise” road trip… except we didn’t plan on killing anyone, blowing up petrol trucks or driving off a cliff at the end… but I digress. We borrowed my dad’s 4 wheel drive…

Back to the real world.

Its true when they say “time flies when your having fun”… seems like just yesterday I was manically packing, wedding planning and writing multiple posts to keep my blog from dying of boredom while I was away. But in spite of the return to winter and the imminent hibernation of my beautiful tan I am happy to be back with my dog snuggled up next to me and the prospect of a brand new year with a new set of exciting events and challenges ahead. Also, if you have been living under a rock for the last few months you…

Summertime… and the living is easy

So were off to the southern hemisphere, don’t hate me because I get to have 2 summers this year… And this means that there’s going to be a little bit less blogging action going on for the next month. I have lined up a few more travel posts and will try to put up a few pictures during the holiday but its all going to be a bit random around here for a while. But random is good, and there will be more South Africa on this blog than any of you can handle when I’m back in freezing Europe!…

Foz do Lizandro

Foz do Lizandro is one of the many beaches on the Ericeira strip of coastline, but it is my favourite for various reasons, the most important being that it is the closest one to my house… I’m lazy like that. It’s long, a good surf spot, generally never full of people, has a river mouth and is also the home of Z√© Pequenos favourite girlfriend, Tosca. The fact that she is much bigger than him has never put him off and he has had a huge crush on her ever since he was a little puppy.
