Accent Magazine for AeroMexico – September 2014
Some tear sheets from an assignment I shot for the September issue of Accent, Aeromexico´s first and business class in-flight magazine. Next week I will blog some of my favourite shots and out-takes from this assignment.
A Layover in Paris
In April this year we spent a week in Helsinki and on the way there (and back again) I booked flights with a long layover in Paris (well, technically 2 layovers, but that doesn’t make for a cool sounding title…). I’d never been to the City of Light before, so even a few hours would be better than nothing… and we felt very “Anthony Bourdain” in our Paris layover adventure. We ate some amazing food, thanks to the great recommendations of our airbnb host, and we also ate some completely awful food, thanks to the fact that our return flight arrived…
Travel & Leisure Mexico – May 2014
A couple of months ago I was contacted by Travel and Leisure Mexico to shoot a story about the emerging modern food scene in Lisbon. I had the best time on this assignment, it was basically a fabulous combination of my 3 favourite activities… photography, travel and eating! And holy smokes did we eat. I was joined by food journalist Mariana Camacho from Mexico and we spent 5 days surrounded by food and wine in some amazing restaurants. This is the magazine layout as the story was published, CLICK HERE to see some of the out-takes and a few of my…
Herdade do Freixo do Meio
I am 100% a warm weather person… I don´t like to be cold and more than 4 days of consecutive rain is guaranteed to drive me completely crazy. But having said that, I really like autumn and I think, photographically speaking, it might just be my favourite time of year. The jury´s still out on that one, because summer is pretty awesome, but there´s just something about the colours and the light of autumn… In November last year we visited the Herdade do Freixo do Meio for their annual “Encontro do Outono” or Autumn Meet-up. The Herdade is an organic farm…
Goodbye summer…
This is pretty much my summer in a nutshell… there was lots of beach and delicious sunsets, quite a bit of sangria, an enormous amount of figs, Lisbon festivals in June, quite a bit of camping, seafood, more figs, more beach, Serra da Estrela, Algarve, Alentejo, more sangria and lots and lots of dogwalking. In between all of this there were 21 weddings and countless other shoots and things… and the fact that the rain in Spain does NOT stay mainly on the plain, but you already heard about that… It was a good summer, but now it´s almost over. But that´s…
Christmas Cookies
Cookies are good any time of the year, but I always seem to make them more often around Christmas time… These ones are shortbread and are ridiculously easy to make, they only need 4 ingredients and you don’t even really need to be exact in your measurements. As long as you’re able to work it all together into an easy-to-roll-out dough, you’re good. If it’s too solid? Add a bit more butter. Too soft? A bit more flour. Easy. Plus, they’re delicious… Merry Christmas! 250g butter 2 cups flour 1 cup Maizena (corn flour) 1/2 cup sugar Cream the sugar…
Picnic
Because sometimes you just need to eat grilled sausage and stare at the sea…
The “Strandloper”
A few more photos from South Africa… These were taken at an open-air restaurant near Langebaan (on the West Coast) on our trip back home from camping (I blogged the camping photos here). “Die Standloper” is a pretty unique spot, I’m sure that there aren’t many places like it in the world. It is quite literally right on the beach and everything is outdoors, the cooking, the buffets, the tables… Fishing nets provide shade above your head and beach sand is beneath your feet… all the food is cooked over an open flame and served in enamel utensils, knifes and…
Neighbourgoods Market, Woodstock
The Neigbourgoods Market at the Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock, Cape Town is a Saturday morning gourmet food market that is really awesome until about 10:30am… and then you suddenly can’t move anymore because the rest of Cape Town has rolled out of bed. The food is wonderful, the vendors are (mostly) all the nicest bunch of people, who are passionate about what they do and could talk to you for hours about their products, but the key to enjoying this market and getting the most out of what it has to offer is in getting there early… I have…
